Hi,
I have asked this question several times in the past few months
to the networking newsgroup. Nobody seems to experience the same
problems with Acornet 0.19, as I do.
After installing it I tried to contact my internet provider with
Acornet, and all seems well. I want to use Arcweb, telnet, ftp, and
(pop) mail. Right now, only Arcweb runs reliable. Whenever I use
any of the other applications (as supplied with Acornet 0.19) I always
get the same problem.
For example, if I use the Freeterm application to telnet to a machine,
I can log in and the machine responds normally. However, as soon as I
exectute a command like dir, or ls, the terminal hangs, and I receive
no output. Note that it doesn't immediately hang, I do see the first
few directory entries, but then it stops. Ftp is worse, the window for
the machine I contact pops up, but I don't get to see the contents.
Pop will contact the mailserver, say that there is a message, tries to
retrieve it, and then hangs as well.
My setup is :
A410 with 4Meg
Riscos 3.1
Acornet 0.19 (without any application upgrades)
I have already upgraded the SerialDev Module, as was suggested by
others before.
What I don't understand is why Arcweb does work, while the others
freeze on me. Now, Acornet is waisting space on my harddisk, and I
have gone back to the combination !SlipDial with !TCPIP which has
always worked for me (but then !Arcweb doesn't work).
Can anyone shed a light on this please. I would really like Acornet
to work.
Thanks in advance,
Alexander van Elsas
